While unfortunate, the reality is you’re almost guaranteed to see or hear people be injured. By accepting this ahead of time and anticipating a potentially violent scene, you can help minimize the “shock factor.” The most important thing to consider during an active shooter is your life. By minimizing time spent coping and comprehending your situation, you helped numb your mind in acceptance of the situation to maintain a keen awareness of the assailant’s location.
3. Know your limitations. Your mental and physical preparation helps you survive violent incidents and active shooters. Before encountering an active shooter or violent episode, you must honestly ask yourself whether you believe you’re physically strong enough to engage the shooter and mentally prepared to deal with violence, injury or death. Accepting this ahead of time and understanding your mental and physical capabilities gives you the ability to focus and deal with the incident.
